Maglite 6 D-cell mod

I have just got a 6 D-cell maglite for xmas for when i walk the dog and the batterys have already gone flat.

Is there any mobs that i can do to make it last longer and a little brighter, I have searched about and to be honest when your talking about numbers it all goes over my head.

I wanted to give the 3 AA to 1 d-cell adapters ago But dont know which bulbs/led and AA low discharge batterys to use.

any help ?

May I suggest the 1200 Lumen drop-in from DealExtreme.com? I modded my 2D Mag with the same drop-in (found here http://dx.com/p/6-cree-q5-wb-5-mode...drop-in-led-module-52-7mm-42mm-8-4v-max-65153). My 2D runs off 6 AAs (two 3xAA to D adapters) and it lasts quite a while off of Energizer/Duracell rechargeable batteries. Since you have the 6D, you wouldn't have to change your battery set-up since you'd get the same voltage as my setup.

If you want to do some slight modification, you can easily complete this mod and make a very impressive Maglite.
