i am looking to make ryobi flashlight into a led flashlight

i saw a thread some time ago that i lost that used a heatsink/fan cooled.

i plan on running 5 leds, probably the xp-g to something like 1500ma, or maybe if i am feeling adventurous some xm-l to 2000ma

i guess maybe the hope of running 5 leds might be kinda wishful, as i am not sure as to what to expect with the battery voltage towards the end of life, would 18v drop as low as 14v ? in which case i would have to go with 4 leds max.

i plan on driving with a linear regulator and will test tonight to find out what happens when the input voltage drops into the .5v overhead that the driver is supposed to need

the heatsink i plan on using is about 4 in by 3 in, and moderately heavy, i may or may not include a fan on my mod.

i am comfortable working with 20mm stars which i can attach by screws

if i end up working with 5 leds i might want to run them in a circle with one in the middle ( so a square i guess) and put optics on the outside 4 only so i can have more flood (or maybe just a wider angle optic on the middle.
