It\'s a MiniMag, It\'s a Brinkmann, It\'s a MiniMag, It\'s a ...???

Hello,

Check this out:
http://hometown.aol.com/xaxo/page4.html

Fig 1 is obviously a MiniMag, but
look at Fig 2 and Fig 3.

What the &$^#%$*& ???????

It's a MiniMag with the Brinkmann name! :)

BTW the sizes are exactly the same, even though
the lights in the the lower two photos look
slightly shorter. The colors are truely
different.

Comments anyone??

Take care,
Al

i suspect they did it digitally.

notice also, that on the bottom two photos, the bottom part of the head is a slighltly different color than the body and the top peice.

It looks to me like they could have done it digitally, but it also looks like the upper part of the head is a slightly different size.

i am quite sure of the digital...if you look at figure 2, you can see a "hole" where the n should be, i suppose they had a hard time editing this out, as it is right where the light is at.

The Brinkman is a 1AAA. I have one sitting right here (but mine's blue). The only light I've seen that competes for lack of output with the Mag Solitare. TX

I think Brinkmann did use to make Mini maglight clones a long, long time ago. I used to have a couple, and I remember most or all of the parts were interchangable. But I think because of legal action, they were forced to change.

I still have one of the pre-lawsuit Brinkman mini-mag clones. When I dig it out I'll post a picture. It looks exactly like a mini-mag except for the name. I also have a Sears mini-mag clone that I bought a long time ago. It too, looks just like a mini-mag without the name, but it comes with a little tiny screw in bulb that is actually brighter then all my mini-mags. I have the Brinkmann AAA too, the proportions look different to me than the one in the pics though. YMMV

Al,
are you sure there's not something stuck on the threads? I'm pretty sure the head screwed off on the one I had, I remember thinking it was exactly like a minimag in everyway. Have you tried to see if a minimag reflector would work? I have a bunch of spare minimag parts if you need one. I wonder if I still have mine, I'm going to try and dig it up.

I have a Brinkmann Black Max. It is similar but lacks a candle mode (head rotates but cannot come off), otherwise it looks exactly like a Mini-Mag, but the corners are also a bit squarish. I wonder if the Opalec New Beam module will fit.

Re: It\'s a MiniMag, It\'s a Brinkmann, It\'s a MiniMag, It\'s a ...???

Hello there,

Yes it's not a digitally altered image, but
an actual scanned flashlight that i scanned
myself yesterday. The flashlight was lent
to me by a friend to scan and ask about on
this site.
As stingray and InTheDark has mentioned,
apparently Brinkmann tried to copy the
Minimag and got sued :)
I guess they dont make it anymore then.

So, now im wondering if this flashlight
is a sort of collector's item ?

It needs a replacement reflector though,
and interestingly the 'head' doesnt unscrew
all the way off like the Minimag does.
It unscrews like the minimag, but doesnt
unscrew enough to take it off. The only
way to replace the guts i guess is to
take off the very top piece which holds the
lens and reflector in place.

Wonder also if it's possible to get
replacement parts for it?

Take care and thanks for the replies folks :)

I just checked my blue body 2AA "maglite" I've had in my desk for years and sure enough it says brinkmann on the head...must be one of those copies. I always called it a minimag. Know what though...it's still crap.

The head doesn't come off of my Brinkmann min-mag clone or my 1AAA.

Edit: it does come off my 2AA Brinkman

A Brinkmag? A Magmann?

After all these years....
The answer is BOTH. :D

They were completely interchangeable
