Strange issue with MacAffee...

Whenever it wants to update (often!) it goes through the motions of downloading and installing files.

Then I get a pop up that says "unable to update the MSI database" (or something quite like that).

Does it mean it's not updated??? And what can I do to make it happy?

What version of McAfee and operating system do you have? Also, have you tried downloading the update as a file from McAfee and updating it manually without using their update tool?

The Windows program is Win2000, Browser IE6.0, MacAffee v7.02.6000 and scan engine 4.2.60

And have never tried manual update.

OK, two things.

Win ME (not 2000)

Did a web search for and downloaded virus definitions 4292 (the one it says is available under auto update).

When I tried running it, I got a message saying it was already running that def. Auto update still says it's available (since it can't update the database)

ARGH!!!! Where lies the truth?

I had an issue with AVG Antivirus: database was corrupted, and it wanted to do dialup (which I don't have). I removed it, and deleted all its files, then installed again, and did the update, which was flawless.

You might want to try that approach.
