Today I got a surefire L5 head in the mail and I was wandering if anyone has successfully opened one?
I have opened proby 15 or so surefire heads, including all the E series and also an L6.
Most of the time between my torch, vice, and a strap wrench I have them open withing a few seconds.
This is clearly NOT the case with L5. I assumed it would come open like an L6 or other SFs.
After trying the traditional methods I found I was going to have to get more aggressive. Eventually I ended up scratching it:shakehead, so I decided since it was already ruined I might as well get it open any way.
Even after clamping the bare head hard in my vice and torquing it with channel locks after heating it with a propylene torch I still have not managed to open this head
