Flashlight Enthusiast
Hi all! This is a continuation of my Lucky Luke Family of XM-L modded flashlights
I present you Rantanplan!
Well in the comic series the dog is the small and unobtrusive guy, but somehow packs more intelligence abd cunning than them all!
Rantanplan and Averell Dalton
Here are the mod details
Ultrafire A20 as a Host
1C XM-L in cutter board
KD S005025 Board (direct drives with 5 modes)
KD forward switch installed
AW IMR 16340 (necessary!)
This mod is actually a recipe of Old4570 (with an XP-G). I just replaced the XP-G and added the Fwd switch to handle the current
Considerable trimming wag needed, It is a tight fit.
Measurements....
Guys this time I was blasted!
Low: 0.16 Amp draw – 120 Lux
Med: 1.52 Amp draw – 1050 Lux (at turn on, latter stabilizes at 690)
High: 3.08 Amp draw – 1910 Lux (at turn on, latter stabilizes at 1310)
Guys this mod is pushing 550 lumens OTF at medium! Exactly what a similar mod with an MC-E was giving me at High!
Beam
Fat and Smooth. Really! At 1m hotspot is 1+ foot across and spill is 4 feet wide!
Issues
Well, there are and they are contributed to the Cutter board that is –as usually- very high for the Chinese flashlights.
That made the pill to screw less, hence rob some space from the battery. Screwing down the flashlight parts will push – through the tailcap spring- the WHOLE switch module back, breaking contact with the retaining ring, electrical contact too. To work it has to be tapped from the back to bounce the switch module in place in contact.
So....I will have to redo it, thinning down the LED mcpcb.....
Temperamental with a mind of its own, like the original Rantaplan!
