Why Do People Want Max Throw?

I note numerous posts asking about what flashlight has the maximum throw. Why the preoccupation with throw? Most of the time I find a light with a relatively floody beam more useful.



I can see throwy lights as necessary for some SR situations and possibly as a rifle mounted light but cannot understand the preoccupation of many members with maximum throw in a light. Bragging/demonstration uses? If you are a maximum throw lights are the best type person then what use do you have for such a beam pattern?



Typically I want to see where I am walking or other relatively close-in uses for a flashlight.
