Can a McClicky switch be installed in a SF E-series tailcap?

I've heard rumors that this is possible, but damn if I can get the lockring on the back of the tailcap to come loose. The stock switch is kinda flaky and I'd like to install something a bit more reliable (and less expensive to replace) if I can do so.
