Ok guys, I'm still new, bear with me here as I'm still trying to figure all this new info out. Sorry if this is one of those questions that gets asked too much.

Anyway, I used to think that candlepower was how brightness was measured in flashlights. Then I found out about lumens, and thought that was the end all way to measure how bright a light is.

But the more lights I own, the more I have compared. It seems that some lights that have half the lumens of some others seem to be as bright, or almost as bright as those claimed to be twice as powerful.

I know that reflectors, and flood or spot type beams make a difference in how a light functions, and how bright it seems.

Is there a different unit of measure besides lumens?

Are lumens the best way to compare lights?

Anybody want to take a stab at explaining how these aspects of flashlights goes? I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks guys BD
