Although asked by CPFers, I don't remember the rationale regarding some, seemingly, reversed choices some manufacturers have used for their products.

ZTS is very popular with our gang, so I'd imagine others have wondered about the 'backwards' polarity for the contacts. It would be MUCH easier for the user if the negative contact had been on the board and the probe was positive.

This makes an otherwise good product maddening because a tiny + tester contact must mate with a tiny + nib contact on the cell. The tester I made years ago is similar, but far easier to use because the large negative base of the tested cell is easy to balance on the testers negative contact.

Some upscale flashlights require the negative battery end at the head. Why use the opposite of what 90%, or more, other makers have accepted as common for over 100 years?

Good question, I have a ZTS and have wondered the same thing. Bit I'm used to it now.
