Hi,

I am hoping somebody can help me. I just bought a 2 D cell Maglite. I am trying to make it as bright as the ones that the police use but I dont know what I need to do to it. Some people tell me that I need a conversion bulb for LEDS. Would any of the following of these work or does anyone have any other suggestions. Dont want to be spending alot of money as well. Just want to make it like a police Maglite. Would any of these bulbs work?

Can somebody please help me out as soon as possible. Thank you very much. :)

Hey I am not an expert on upgrades but I am pretty sure that Terralux make a 3 Watt LED upgrade for a 2D Maglite.
I am sure that would outperform the one you are considering.
I have their 140 Lumen in a Minimag and it works great.

Define Police Maglite for us, I am clueless as to what their lights are compared to yours.

the guy simply wants a bright conversion to the maglite. OP, what you need to define is what type of beam you want. There are floody beam drop-ins for the maglite that are very bright, but very short throw. there are also throwing inserts that will be much brighter than a stock maglight.

of course, for the price of some of the inserts you could just buy a smaller and brighter light, too.

He has to first define how bright the competition is, what if they are not using actual Maglites but a light designed with a cree driven at 1 amp running lithium ion batteries? no way a mag can easily and cheaply compete with that. My advice is to sell the mag and buy a light that does what you want or start reading threads about people modding mags till you find a mod within your budget.

The bulbs you are considering are a considerable improvement over the standard Mag light incandescent. There is also the Terralux led upgrade options available. I have both the $8 and $15 Nite Ize Mag upgrade bulbs. A considerable improvement. I suggest you check the specs and get one that will operate at a wide voltage range. Example I take the 1W terralux bulb out of the Maglite and put it into a Rayovac 2 D Industrial work light or a 6V lantern light for extended run time. In some cases the bulb outlasts the flashlight!
I have also found that the Nite Ize bulbs are less bright, but focus much better with the head of the Mag versus the brighter beam of the Terralux bulb with shorter run times.
As Lynx Arc has said, you need to define what you are comparing your Mag light to.
Most of the lights you are describing "Police Mag-lite" are far brighter, more powerful, and more expensive than a standard/LED Mag-Lite and the bulbs you are considering. There thousands of options for smaller and brighter lights that are less expensive than a quality tactical light.

An extreme example, It would be like going shopping for a fast car. Going into the dealer and wanting to verify the specs for the car you are looking to buy are faster than a Police Vehicle. "Salesman-" Do you want one faster than a metermaid cart, a police motorcycle, a squad car, or a SWAT van? He needs to know the make and model to compare specs to the car you are considering.

A suggestion, You can visit a local Law Enforcement or Tactical supply company. There you will be able to get information on the types of lights you are inquiring about. They maybe even able to let you try one or two .

:welcome:
