Default Wave of Makai 6V XM-L lights

2-28-13 : These are back in stock again.

    Hi guys,
This thread is an offering for the Ti Makai as detailed below with the exception that a Cree XM-L LED is used in place of the XP-G LED.

This offering is for a Makai head that includes a Buck 3S converter designed to run on ~4-9 volt battery supply and drives the LED at ~1400 mA

    The Makai 6V XM-L Head is $350 + postage

If you want to get a complete light you can go for a

    Makai 6V -XM-L 2x123 which would be $580 + postage

These lights are available on first come first serve basis; as determined by e-mail orders I receive which are clear, concise and include the must have information:

In the subject line of the E-mail please state: Makai 6V XM-L Head or if you want a complete light , Makai 6V-XM-L 2x123
    Your CPF name
    (if you have one)
Your real name and mailing address
    phone number if international shipment
Any exceptions to standard shipping, which is priority mail.
If the shipment is domestic and you want insurance, please so state. (No insurance offered on international shipments)*

For my general info on how I process these offerings, please refer to THIS THREAD. For more information on the Makai, please review THIS THREAD.

All of these lights sport some tool marks and various cosmetic singularities. Some may be obvious and some you may need to look closely for.

If you receive one of these lights and decide that it does not meet your expectation then you can either lower your expectations or simply send the light back for a full refund. I won't offer an exchange for probably obvious reasons. (please don't abuse this offer)

Like all of my Ti lights, the Makai is designed to be sealed from the environment and external pressure but I make no claim or suggestion that it is a dive or underwater light.

    Thanks guys!

    * shipping is via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation or Global Priority mail. If you wish shipping via an alternative method, or signature confirmation or insurance on domestic shipments only, please specify in your e-mail order. If you want insurance, I will also add the expense and option of signature confirmation to your shipment.

Awesome light! Don, do you have any beamshots of this beast? Comparisons against the Makai xp-g would be sweet!
    Cheers from the McGizmo state.

The few beam shots I have taken in the last couple years have been in my back yard but it is no longer a good location thanks to the growth of some plants and trees as well as an addition on my rear deck. I need a suitable location.....

I dont know and dont wanna do no damage.
Do not put your 1 cell (3s) Haiku into a 2 cell setup. Your Haiku will go poof.

I have found that my AW123,s fit in the Makia , but the EagleTacs dont ???? The EagleTacs seem to be fatter and are so tight , I dont wanna force them in. I might not be able to get them back out.
    Anyone know ?
    Thank you dj

Thanks for all the previous answers also.

Maybe a 17670 with the label off? Someone would have to test it out...

Not all tubes will take the 17670 with the label off. Don never designed this to do so. It so happens the tolerance will allow some to accept it. When the cutting tool is new, the first few will get cut on the upper tolerance. As the tool wears down, the subsequent tubes will get tighter but still within Don's tolerance specifications.
So it depends on your luck.

Djdawg. If you have the 6v LE in your Makai, use 2 primaries as this LE is optimized for that. While Don's 6v will happily do the 4.2v on a fresh 17670, the performance may not be what you have paid for.

I just wanted to use rechargables instead of buying batts all the time.
I guess I,ll have to stick to the two RCR,s
Iam actually using two AW ICR123 750mah ............ the Eagle Tac batts wont fit , I thought they were all the same size ?????
I thought a 123 batt was a 123 batt ................so much to learn ....LOL

Let me refraise this .........Eagletacs fit but there too tight , harder to remove. if it ever swelled up , Id never get it out.

Hi. I can understand that the run time will be longer with primaries, but are you also saying that the flashlight will be Brighter? I always thought the voltage governed this and two AW's have far greater voltage than two 3v primaries. But I'm not an expert

You could remove the switch and push them out from the other side if that happened, but it's not a very convenient workaround.

If you are running a XML 6v Makai on high, that will give you around half hour in runtime.

Plus if you are not conversant with handling them, best that you learn up first especially double stacking them.

It will not be brighter as the LE will regulate the output.

I did some reading on it ..........I know if you use two batts to make sure they have the same charge in them.
Ive read alot of stuff people post on and in this forum ...........
But alot of what I read doesnt stick in my head , so I forget alot of it.
I just got my Makai and dont wanna have to buy batts, all the time .....so rechargeing will save me money .........
I thought its better to run one longer batt than two small ones.

    .
I use my Makai every day and it's still on the first set of primary batteries, after more than a month. I find it much easier to just go ahead and buy a box of 50 high quality 123A batteries (at 50, you get a good discount) and forget about the hassles of recharging. I fully expect to get well more than a year of use from the box of 50.

I back up the use of primaries by using a good battery checker, so I know what the status is of the batteries before taking them to the field.

The brightnest will be the same as it is regulated till it falls below a certain voltage. The RCR have only half the juice as compared to a primary. Fancy paying nearly $600 for the light and have only half hour usage. LOL
