Just ordered one of these beauties and can't wait to get what will be my first McGizmo and indeed first custom light. Pretty excited!
Congratulations on getting a great light. Got mine a couple days ago. Had Don bead blast the entire flashlight. Add the 1/4"-20 clip and one of Don's coiled tether with ti hardware and you have a "Jaqi" Makai. Here's an action pic.

I cant believe I just bit the bullet here .............
Congratulations!
I've been more than pleased with mine. Just yesterday, Jaqi alerted to something in the park, after she was in the car, it was now dark so I scanned the area (6 acres) with the Makai. A pair of shining eyes could be seen about 100 yards away. Was able to determine that it was a raccoon. The performance of the Makai has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
Nice DFT~! I wish mine was BBed as well, only the tube is BB (and has the best surface for usability~!!)
Yeah, nothing about looks, although I really like the look, it's about utility. I habitually wear gloves when outdoors with the dog and the BB surface provides a bit better grip. Also can't say enough about the McGizmo coiled tether. Makes it easy to have the Makai always right at hand without having it in hand. When out, it rarely leaves my arm so it's there even when in stores, etc. I think that the BB surface is helpful there too. Instead of a shiny object that attracts attention to itself, the BB Makai just looks like a regular old flashlight. Nothing fancy about it. When in public, to me, that's a big plus.
How many lumens does this beauty put out?
Hi, Ordered a Makai and it arrived yesterday (UK) and WOW what a light. A real gem, works flawlessly. The throw is quite incredible for a light of this power. I have a Haiku which is a little stiffer to operate and which I use for my every day light, but this Makai is going to be great for those long dog walks.
Although expensive, I feel the quality is of the highest standard. I only own four torches (British, thus not a flashlight!) this, the Haiku, Dark Sucks custom, and an oveready slim and they are all 'work' lights and used all the time. The Makai will be used a lot as the throw is amazing and just what I needed.
Well done Don. I only wish you could get this kind of quality product produced in the UK. But all we seem to be able to manage is Banks and we don't do that very well.

I have a question to those that know ........... is my Haiku 1-batt head compatible with my Makia 2-batt body ??
Meaning will the head (led) burn out if I put it in a 2-batt body ??
I dont know and dont wanna do no damage.
One more question ............I have a Makia 2x123 , what 18650 type batt will fit in the Makia houseing ?
I have found that my AW123,s fit in the Makia , but the EagleTacs dont ???? The EagleTacs seem to be fatter and are so tight , I dont wanna force them in. I might not be able to get them back out.
Anyone know ?
Thank you dj
18650 will not go into a 2x123 pak.
This I know ......... but is there a batt that will fit ?? or am I stuck using two RCR,s ?
Thanks for all the previous answers also.
Maybe a 17670 with the label off? Someone would have to test it out...

Not all tubes will take the 17670 with the label off. Don never designed this to do so. It so happens the tolerance will allow some to accept it. When the cutting tool is new, the first few will get cut on the upper tolerance. As the tool wears down, the subsequent tubes will get tighter but still within Don's tolerance specifications.
So it depends on your luck.
Djdawg. If you have the 6v LE in your Makai, use 2 primaries as this LE is optimized for that. While Don's 6v will happily do the 4.2v on a fresh 17670, the performance may not be what you have paid for.![]()
I just wanted to use rechargables instead of buying batts all the time.
I guess I,ll have to stick to the two RCR,s
Iam actually using two AW ICR123 750mah ............ the Eagle Tac batts wont fit , I thought they were all the same size ?????
I thought a 123 batt was a 123 batt ................so much to learn ....LOL
Let me refraise this .........Eagletacs fit but there too tight , harder to remove. if it ever swelled up , Id never get it out.

You could remove the switch and push them out from the other side if that happened, but it's not a very convenient workaround.

I actually just ordered more AW batts.
Thats easier for me .......LOL
Goes to show you how much I know ..........I thought you always got brighter and longer run time with rechargables.
I did some reading on it ..........I know if you use two batts to make sure they have the same charge in them.
Ive read alot of stuff people post on and in this forum ...........
But alot of what I read doesnt stick in my head , so I forget alot of it.
I just got my Makai and dont wanna have to buy batts, all the time .....so rechargeing will save me money .........
I thought its better to run one longer batt than two small ones.
