Hello,

i've been thinking a lot of this the last days.

how do you think the flashlight market will be in 2021?

A example; Ultrafire is the leading and most innovative lightening producer and Surefire moved their fabrics to the East.
(This was only a example, just Bullsh*)

My guess is that LED Lenser rules the world..

The Malkoff M9100, fitted with the LumiCree ZX-Mach7 gigaLED emitter, will output 4,500 lm (OTF) for 10 hours on 2x AW LiAu 17340-size 35,000mAh cells, 24 hrs on med (900 lm), 400 hrs on low (250 lm) or 5 years on "moonlight" (5 lm) mode. It will weigh 1 oz and cost $320. Selfbuilt Intl. Inc. will give it a 5-star review.

Man, after Boston melted when that kid reversed polarity on a LiAu battery in the uberfire knock-off made in the former Colonies of British Siberia, I just don't like beginners using those things if they aren't aware of the risks.

SureFire is just about to ship their "special items" which were listed in their 2010 Catalog.

Hopefully, the Surefire 6P with Z44 head will still be in production.

There will still be the debate about the usefullness of strobe in a light, some lights with SOS function will incorporate a GPS chip that activates once you hit the "this is a real emergency" button/mode that either activates the SOS or the beacon. Of course the UI either hides that button/mode real good so the chances are slim that you will find that mode when you need it or that button/mode gets activated everytime since it is located between low and high and your SOS/GPS-ID gets blocked after some false alarms by some annoyed dispatchers.

High-lumen lights will be water cooled.

Many CPFers are still looking for "THE" edc light.

Apple finally comes out with a flashlight, the iTorch. First batch will be shipped with blacklight LEDs ;-) but we are promised that the next batch will include white LEDs. The iTorch uses its own battery design, since the rights for the CR123 format were bought by Adobe in an attempt to spoil Apples iTorch plans.

Fenix will be bought by a gentleman from Phoenix, production gets moved to Phoenix.

Maglite offers its D-line of flashlights with the XM-L LED and market its as a breakthrough in LED technology - most consumers actually buy that marketing plot.

Cheers
Thorsten

I believe that batteries will probably take a huge leap forward in the next decade. There is plenty of momentum with all the gadgets that currently take batteries as well as the push for electric cars. Li-ions (or some other chemistry) could have up to 10x their current capacities.

We released those prototypes yesterday. Will hopefully have 10 more in stock next week!

The newest Malkoff drop-ins are so bright, the government requires buyers/users to obtain training and a license to own and operate them.

PAB called it :)

1 watt 200 lumen lights run by 1AA. People will be happy buying the new tactical lights that run on 2AA that have a sparate control for brightness. 400 lumens is great on max, but 200 lumens is all you really need and you get longer run time. Cr123A tactical lights running 800 lumens for the military, probably with a low setting of 200 lumens to last all night long for patrols.

Pretty close to the mark when you consider that we have infinite variable lights with ring selection, and new XM-L lights that can push 800 lumens from a couple of CR123's.

Good call.

We should start a competition, and revisit this thread in 5-10 years and see how close we get :)

In 2019 we have a major science breakthrough and we find how to transmit electricity without cables. Same year all the electronic hardware is equipped by an antenna instead of batteries. Batteries are necessary only in areas not covered by the signal, and charge automatically when the signal is present.
All flashlight are connected to the internet, and you can control them by your phone (that is a thiny, clear, flexible plastic sheet, but this in another story) for state-of-charge, signal coverage, and gps/galileo.
