can anyone help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif I just killed a Q3J /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif
I managed to get the leads of the board, using a soldering iron & a razor but when I tried to get the rest...
the clear cap (with the leads) came right off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
any suggestions?

Desolder leads, grab each side of the board (as close as you can to the emitter base) with two pairs of stout pliers and bend backward, emitter should pop right off.

Red,

After you unsolder the leads, bend the heatsink back away from the Luxeon with a couple pair of pliers. Once the aluminum bends, the thermal epoxy holding the Luxeon will seperate and the Luxeon will fall right off.

Edit: Charlie's faster on the draw; go figure....

...with a -- what? I would just make sure the driver in the Dorcy is ready to handle a Luxeon...
