As best I can tell, yes. Thrunite claims 300+ lumens for the 1A on 14500. I don't have an integrating sphere (yet), but based on comparisons to other lights in my collection with known ANSI output, I'd say it's about 350. Amazing.

I'm surprised there isn't more (any?) competition in the XM-L AA/14500 space. Thrunite has proven that ~350 lumens is possible in a very small package.

I have'nt seen the neutron but i'll vouch for the Lumapower Trust 1. They claim ~370 emitter lumens w/14500. I am guessing around ~280 (ish) OTF. But, none the less its pretty bright for a single cell unit.

What is the max lumen with AA NiMH?
Why is it quoted only 145 lumen max here http://www.hkequipment.net/index.php?p=6&id=795〈=en&msg=Session%20Expiried!&s=
Also: on their website (www.thrunite.com) I can't find any info on the 1AA model at all?

145 lumens is what you'll get with AA alkaline or NiMH. You'll get ~350 lumens with 14500 lithium ion.

Very few manufacturers provide performance data for AA/AAA/CR123 lights on lithium ion. Don't know why, but I'll bet my house the answer involves lawyers and/or government regulations.

And yeah, their website is hopeless. Sadly, this is more the rule than the exception for high-end flashlights.

For useful information, look for selfbuilt reviews or check out CPF Marketplace -> Manufacturer's Corner -> Thrunite.

So if I decide to go with AA, I guess nothing beats the Zebralight yet - SC51 gives 200 lumen and the neutral SC51w 172 lumen

I believe that's correct -- SC51 is the brightest 1xAA NiMH, while Neutron 1A is the brightest 1x14500 (AA form factor Li-Ion).

4sevens has some new Quarks in the 2011 catalog that may give the SC51 a run for the money, but they're not shipping yet and no ETA.

And it is one of the / if not the / smallest AA lights. It is quite amazing actually. I already have 3 Zebralight, probably have to get the SC51w too.

Jetbeam pa10 boasts 650 ansi lumens from a single 14500

Yeah, I was wondering when someone was going to mention this light^^

The Jetbeam PA-10 goes WAY over 300L on turbo with a single 14500! I bought one about 5 weeks ago, and it is bad-a$$ on a 14500.... But like any small light trying to run at 650L, it gets hot in a few minutes. So the 650L turbo is a short term option, which is to be expected with a light thats about than 1" in diameter with no cooling fins. All the LED lights that run at 600-650-700 Lumens on high all have much wider and larger heads, usually with heat sinks and cooling fins. Any small light you buy that will allow you to run a 14500 for significantly higher brightness will get hot. You shouldnt plan on using it for long periods. If you need a light that will run at 300-650 Lumens for long periods, you need a larger light.

Jetbeam's the brightest 14500 light pulling up to 2.2Amps.

You lose the mode switching though.
