One Lap of America

The One Lap of America is going on right now.

On their first day of competition, they came to Grissom Air Force Base near Peru Indiana for an autocross. I love to autocross so I was one of the volunteers helping host the event.

Imagine my glee when I saw this car:

I had to take a break from my work assignment to go over and talk to David. I even pulled my Preon EDC from my pocket and showed to him. I'm such dork.
David did great in the car, he was first in his class for the autocross. He invited me back to talk to him later back in the paddock, but they had to hit the road before I had a chance to get over there, they were off to another track 550 miles away.

It's great when your two hobbies cross paths.

It's the Tire Rack One Lap of America. Its ancestor was known as the original "Cannonball Run". The rules are a bit different and things are kept legal, but it's still a time based cross country race, just now instead of balls out who gets there first it's a timed sequence event, where they travel to different race track events across the country. Get to the next stage too early and points are deducted, etc.
