Hi Everyone,
I just picked up a Maglite that takes 2 D Batteries and I was wondering what the brightest LED drop-in I can put in it is. Thanks for your help!

If your sticking with D cells the Fusion36 is a great choice. 400+ lumens off 2D cells.
Malkoff Makes a good sturdy dropin. There are lots of options for the old incandescent maglites in the custom modified bst
That on lithium batteries will run a 1000 or more lumens on lithium batteries

The brightest that I can think of is mac's 3300L dropin. You could run it with 6 x Nimh batteries in a 2D to 6AA holder. You'd need reasonably high current nimh AA's though like eneloops.

As one data point, the Fusion36 only lasted about 4 months of occasional use in my 2D and just stopped working. Any suggestions for something between the $25 and $300-400 price points given so far??
