I am seeing the local dealers stock the Fenix PD31 R5 limited edition. Any reviews on this light? The few i find said the throw isn't good and has a ring.

I am looking for a new EDC, the TX21 is a little too large to carry in my pant pockets. Any other recommendations with similar specs and price ($80)?

Brightness - 250-300 lumens
1 x 18650 battery or 2 x CR123
Size - can put in pocket with limited bulge
Weight - 60-80 grams with no battery
Durability - Type III hard-anodized

I personally think the throw on the PD31 is quite good for the size of the light. It does has the "Cree Rings" which is typical with smooth reflector but to me wasn't bothersome in outdoor use. Flat top 18650's work in it. I compared it to a Malkoff M61 and the PD31 was both brighter and had more throw than the M61 but the M61 just has an all around better "general use" beam pattern. I did wind up selling my PD31 but not because it was a bad light by any means, I was just reducing my number of lights had to choose between it and a Quark 123x2. The Quark won out because of the moonlight mode and smoother beam pattern.

My favorite light in this category is the Zebralight SC60.

100mm long (4 inches)
50 grams weight
300 lumens on high
darn near perfect beam
great pocket clip
0.2 lumens on low
6 brightness levels
best UI on the market (IMO)
uses 1 18650 (cannot use 2x cr123 cells)
available in neutral tint if desired (SC60w)

i'd take a look at the former jet-III ST with the xr-e r2 led, probably a better thrower than the R5 version

Ordered a PD31, waiting for delivery. Waiting is the hardest part.

I have a PD31 and I absolutely love it. Very high quality and feels great in my hand. The output on high is amazing and the modes are great.

I haven't run the 18650 yet due to the investment.

Wish I could afford 10 more to have on hand.
