Hi all,

I am thinking about getting some luxeon stars to 'experiment' with, but at the £10 ($15 US) each they are a little too expensive to buy the wrong one, so ...

I would like to know what the difference between all the different types are.

The side emitter seems quite self explanitory, but what is the differnce between the batwing and the lambertian, is this just a different package where the viewing angle is also different. Also on the star with optics I was wondering if you can adjust the beam angle ?

Thanks in advance as any input will be greatly appreciated.

generally speaking, a highdome is the most versatile emmiter type.
it workse well with reflector, and when coupled with an optic, it throws further than a lowdome, with squarish hotspot.

the lowdome works well with some reflectors, and i'm rather fond of the beam from a ld and a mag reflector.
when used on an optic you will notice a smooth round beam pattern, more suitable for upclose distances than the hd.

the se's aren't used much around here, as they don't work at all with optics, and hd's often perform much better in reflectors.
