After a Mt hiking trip, I realize the importance of having a light that will last several
hours, preferably the whole night without sacrificing output. So I thought why not do a runtime test on medium mode for some of my Single AA lights.

Here's the contenders (from lest to right): Akoray K106, Tank 566, Solarforce L2M, Tank 506, MiNi AA, Nitecore D10, Z SC50w, Z H51.

Just select the edit post option located at the bottom right hand corner of your post. Once you click it you will be able to make any changes to your post, including the title. :)

Thanks for your efforts, Ian. I look forward to your results, especially since I have a couple of the contenders.

After 3 1/2 hours on the test, The lights remaining is the Akoray k106, Tank 566, Z SC50w, Z H51. I was dissapointed with my other lights as I was expecting more.

4 hrs, lights remaining are Tank 566, Z SC50, Z H51.

5 hrs, Only the two Zebralight remains.

6 hrs, Still the Zebras keeps going.

7 hrs, Only the SC50w remains.

9 hrs, Sc50w still going but has a slight drop in output

10 hrs, SC50w still going but now switched to Low mode.

Good show Zebralight! My SC50w has been my current favorite single AA for a few months. I've long been curious just what kind of runtime it had, since it seemed quite efficient. Now I'm liking it even more. Thanks, again.

Couple quick questions:

  • Medium level 1 was used for both ZLs?
  • Are you using 2000 mAh Eneloops?

By the results, it looks like "yes" to both, but for posterity's sake...

 - Jas.

Hi,

Yes I'm using both Medium 1 for the Zebralights and all was tested with 2000MAh eneloops.

Can you run the SC50w against a Quark or Fenix AA?

Can you run the SC50w against a Quark or Fenix AA? Either of which could have won this competion against the defeated lights.

I only have a MiNi AA and don't have any single AA fenix.

I Just charged all the batteries and will try again for my Neutral MiNi AA against the SC50w and other AAs. Maybe other lights in medium mode is just too bright.

AA on Medium Mode part II (using newly charged Eneloop AA 2nd Gen).

Solarforce L2m(AA), Tank007 506 SS, D10 Camo, Z sc50w, MiNi AA nw.

After 3 hours the L2m and Tank 506 quit, down to 3 lights.

3 1/2 hrs, Only the MiNi AA and SC50w remains.

5 hrs, Still both MiNi AAnw and SC50w is doing good, maybe I just used a semi depleted battery for the MiNi AA in the last test.

6hrs, The MiNi AA switched to low but the Zebra SC50w still going strong and still able to activate high mode. So basically the Medium Mode of the SC50 still reigns supreme among these lights.

Is there any other lights you guys could recommend to be as efficient as the SC50?

Thanks

The SC50's Medium runtime is impressive - and will be hard to beat. Important thing to consider between the Mini and SC50; the SC50's Medium 2 level more closely matches the Lm output of the Mini's medium - resulting in an even greater runtime advantage for the ZL if it were run in M2 (around 20 hours). Thanks for doing this very informative thread - a lot of people use their medium modes more than their high modes (myself included).

Glad to see my EDC light, the H51, has done well. Thanks for the work.

Doesn't the SC50 and H51 share the same circuitry and driver? I thought I read somewhere that it did. Maybe I'm wrong..

Just wondering why the SC50 ran longer than the H51? Any thoughts?

Actually my H51 seems brighter than my SC50w in M1 mode, maybe there's a difference in circuitry as zebras did some changes from the first batches to the newer ones of these lights.

Use the H51 for my bike light and it is all I have ever needed. I guess if you are going on some epic all night ride you need a spare battery - but my night rides are always well lit.

Stunning how mu ch light can be produced in such a small package. ZL has some issues quality wise - It's not my strongest light by a longshot, but damn they deliver the light!
