I have been considering buying a new 800 lumen 6x123A light and I have narrowed it down to two:

The Olight SR50
http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-sr50-intimidator.html

or

The Sunwayman M60R
http://www.batteryjunction.com/sunwayman-m60r-xml.html

Both look interesting and I an weighing the pros and cons of both.

Both are able to tailstand for a ceiling bounce to light up a small room and both are really nice looking lights.

On the Olight I like the U.I. with the side switch but the battery holder is plastic and I have had those break before.

On the Sunwayman the battery holder looks metal in the picture. I kinda like the setting knob but I don't like the #$%&* totally useless strobe function that I wish more manufacturers would just do away with. If anyone has this model is it possible to operate the brightness adjustment ring and hold the flashlight with one hand or is the rotation of the ring so stiff that it requires a two handed operation? Does the ring have "clicks" that you can feel for each setting or does it move smoothly like the Surefire U2?

If anyone has one or both of these models please add your comments, likes, dislikes, etc. to help me decide.

Thanks

Hi Tim,

I don't have a M60R but I do have a Olight SR51 which is a updated SR50 that uses a XM-L emitter instead of the SST-50 that the SR50 uses. You may already know but the XM-L is more efficient with better throw vs. the SST-50.

Like I said I don't have that Sunwayman but I do have the SR51 and it's a really good light that I could not be happier with.

On the Sunwayman the ring is velvety smooth requiring only light force, can be operated with one hand, has detents at each position, so you can avoid the strobe.

The SR50 can't take any kind of rechargeables while the M60R can take RCR123 (but not 18650).

As mentioned by jhc37013, I'd consider the SR51 instead of SR50 and compare that one with the M60R.

Excellent!

Is the side switch forward or reverse clicky? I guess what I am asking is can I do a momentary on by pressing it partially down?

On the SR51 the switch is electronic so you can't do momentary, click to turn on- then hold to ramp to next mode and it remembers the last mode used when turned off, you can double click on any mode to quick access strobe. It's a very simple UI and I like it, strobe is out of the way but if you need it well it's always right there easily accessed.
