This is a MOST useful thing he is doing, and it's giving us more, relevant information; than we've ever had.

I've heard "Light Thingies", "Light Box Units", "Relative Lumens".

We need an "official" name for these "whatever" they are. And I think they are real, and good numbers for all of us.

I applaude him for this effort.

Any entries ?

THE PRIZE IS: one beautiful Streamlight Twin-Task 1L flashlight in shiny Titanium. With lanyard, a new CR 123, and paid shipping. Quickbeam will choose the winner.

Re: Contest for naming Quickbeams light readings

As I started this nebulous affair, I feel I have to come up with a suitable prize.

I am feeling generous about this, I am usually frugal (cheap), but: THE PRIZE WILL BE: a shiny pre-paid shipping, Streamlight Twin-Task 1 L in stunning Titanium. I'll even put in a new 123 Lithium. I will hate myself later, as I will have to replace it; and if my wife finds out, she'll probably castrate me (she is frugal also). Mostly, she likes to spend all the money all by herself.

Anyway, I am commited.

I hearby appoint Quickbeam himself, to set the rules, and moderate this. He will NOT like this, and will hold grudges against me for a long time. I apologize to him in advance.

As I am leaving on a two week sabattical on Friday, I will have to let you fine folks thrash this out.

I will have no computer available after tomorrow (gasp), so don't expect any coddling, or favoritisms here. Bribes won't work.

Till October the 19th or so, I bid you farewell................

Re: Contest for naming Quickbeams light readings

1) In honor of QuickBeam maybe QBU's [QuickBeam Units].

2) In honor of another esteemed CPF member perhaps Milky's [Play on the Milk Carton].

Edit: Oops ... I see QBU is already mentioned.

Re: Contest for naming Quickbeams light readings

I think the q makes it an easier acronym to associate with the maker, and thus the whole project.
I'll throw in QuickBox Units. I hope that it is possible to reproduce quickie's setup internationally, with different milk brands as well.

Re: Contest for naming Quickbeams light readings

OH Boy.....

JohnK is lucky he's going away for a while. Tenesee isn't all that far from here and I might have taken a day trip to strangle him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I suppose the damage is done, so let's see what we've got...

Per JohnK, we're naming the UNITS, not the apparatus, so just names for the output units I'm measuring, please.

BlindedByTheLite - MOLES (Measuring Output in Lumens Efficiently)
Size15s - LBU's (Light Box Units)
onelight - QBU (Quick Beam Units)
BC0311 - LUXS (Light Units eXperimental Sorta)
BC0311 - LUMENSS (Light Units Measured Experimentally Nevertheless Scientifically Sorta)
Stanley - QuickLux
Stanley - LuxEmQuick
Stanley - LuxBux
RevDavid - RIO (Relative Integrated Output)
Dreamlogic - beamies
E2E4ME - MCU's (Milk Carton Units)
E2E4ME - QLR's (Quantitative Light Reading)
E2E4ME - POUND (Photon OUtput Numerical Data)
E2E4ME - PNUT (Photon NUmerical Total)
E2E4ME - CUPS (CUmulative Photon Statistics )
FlashlightOCD - Milky's
AliSnail - QuickBox Units

Add your entry to the list. October 9th (one week) will be the day of decision! 10 days later JohnK will be back to send the prize.
