EDIT: ive done the mod, just waiting on the body tube which is being cerakoted.

Here's the pics.

Here's the new XML compared to the old neutral xpg I put in there. I had to take it off the board and file the board from 2mm down to 1 mm.

Here I have centered the led to the reflector, and glued it in using some arctic silver thermal adhesive.

And the wires soldered on

And here's the end product.

Not a D10, but...

Originally had an XR-E and all I did was replace it with an XM-L on a 14mm board. If you like a wall of light and 140% more output, than you might consider it worthwhile. I'm guessing due to the lower vF (XM-L vs XR-E) is the reason for the extreme increase in output as this thing pulls @1.3A from an AW IMR 16340.

Re: nitecore d10 xml mod

both of the reflectors in the d10 (xr-e,xp-e) can be used without modification for an xm-l mod. runtimes are similar to stock, a 14mm round board fits well

Re: nitecore d10 xml mod

I would be interested in doing this if it would work with a 1.5 volt or 1.2 volt NIMH AA battery.

Thanks for posting this mod. It inspired me to do the same to my D10 R2. With a XML U3 it is an absolute rocket. With a 14500 I'm guessing it is putting out around 420 lumen. It has given new life to one of my favorite lights.

I've been meaning to do this same mod on my EX11.2, but I like it a lot as it is. Maybe if I get my hands on a used one...
