    Default Random flashlight thoughts thread

Sometimes I have random flashlight related thoughts that I'd like to share, but they don't merit individual threads of their own. So I was hoping we could get a thread going were we could share these random thoughts without cluttering the boards. I'll start...

Tonight, I walked out the front door and was genuinely dismayed when the motion activated flood lights came on, rendering my flashlight useless.

F*&% I need more money so I can buy more flashlights, is what i think of every day.

Random thought, Unless I am willing to carry a diffuser with me 24/7 (which i am not) then all my flashlights are useless as work lights. When chopping wood or building outside I turn on my lights and point them in the are I am working in, but they are blinding and distracting, always glare in my eyes even when looking 90 degrees else were.

The other night I was talking the back off of my new digital volt meter to put a battery in it. One of the tiny little screws fell on my carpet. I was feeling around with my hand trying to find it. HOW was i going to find it??? Duh, I had two flashlights right there on the table. I grabbed the UF-H2B, turned it on and spotted the screw immediately! True story. I never use my lights for a purpose, this time I did. Does that justify my compulsion/addiction?

I used my TK-41 in the dark laying on it's side to hook up a trailor last week... worked great!

I always think 'damn' when my front porch light comes on. I like sneaking from my car to the front door with 1 or 2 lumens from my flashlight when i get home from work...

Before I got into flashlights I never (rarely) needed one. Now I need one all the time

You can diffuse a throwy beam, but, you cannot focus a floody beam. If anyone has figured out how please let us know!

I prefer small floody beam flashlights for pocket carry because it's far easier to carry a small light and not need it than to have a big light, but, cannot use it because you can't carry it and don't have it on you when you need it. Floody beams work better up close.

True, but a diffused beam is not nearly as nice as a true flood beam. I sold my ZL SC51F for this very reason. No-where near as nice as the H501 proper flood.

If your flood light doesn't throw far enough for you, get a brighter one

I have thought this many times when the power comes back on after an outage.

Sounds like you need one of those floody Zebralights

I had a not so random thought the other night as I was walk through a place I haven't been for years. It used to be very dark, overgrown, woody type place with a path through the middle. I was looking forward to putting my new Q mini to good use, when to my horror I saw that they have chopped down all the trees and illuminated the path with no less than a dozen street lamps! Rendering my Q mini useless :-(

And I couldn't help but think 'street lights ruin all my fun'

You can't unscramble scrambled eggs. (Maybe not terribly relevant but that's what came to mind reading this post.)

Another street light rant. The one outside my house was out for about a week, but, alas, no more.

I heard a customer ask a store employee "Where are the flashlights?" and my instinct was to pat my belt to make sure my Fenix was there. I thought to myself "One on my belt, one on my keyring, 3 more in the car, 60 at home..."

Add a diffuser. If it's not enough add a thicker diffuser.

    Don't put 14500's in a Pelican 2360. It won't turn out well.

An Armytek predator's bezel hurts when dropped on bare foot. Learned this valuable piece of info about an hour ago.

It feels very nerdy to realise you'd rather have a larger, lower-output keychain light in order to build battery redundancy into your EDC. It also feels great.

I'm not sure that would help. You would have to try and add some sort of dome in front of the lens to spread it out more. If you really want a wide flood it makes more sense to get the H501.

The wait for the H502 is killing me!

Random thought. This has probably been discussed and answered but anyway, I'm a one flashlight owner (as far as this forum goes). I have various flashlights in the house but just bought a Fenix LD10. I keep it in my pocket and use it for walking my dog and looking under furniture for my grandson's toys (two most consistant uses, others also of course). I consider the Fenix to be the almost only flashlight to discuss in this forum. I also have a couple of Mag-lites. Anyway, I would like to know the best web sites to shop/buy flashlights of any kind (good selection and prices). I live in huricane territory so flashlights are part of our emergency supplies and I may want to check out different models for times when the power goes out for long periods of time (several hours to many days). Any suggestions on lights for this is appreciated also. Anyone have a favorite brand?

In the past few years I've developed an interest (addiction?) in knives. It seems flashlights hold the same power over "flashlight people". I DO NOT want to become a "flashlight people". I am intrigued about the features available now compared to 10 or 20 years ago.

I think many times that before this site I had one very angry blue LED flashlight that I rarely used to see things once in a while. Now I've got just under 30 lights and I like each one almost as much as the others to the point I actually can't bear the thought of selling and not having one of them.

I don't live in your neck of the woods so I'm probably not the best person to give you advice. However just from hangin' out on CPF and looking at the banner ads, goinggear.com and batteryjunction.com seem to be firm favorites to spend your dosh.

As for good brands - well I think you did well to pick the LD10 for your first light, it's a cracking torch. I do like Fenix lights myself, but everyone will give you a different opinion. Take a look at the manufacturers corner over at CPF market place :-)

I was contemplating today about what if someone made a flashlight that was capable of producing natural day light. And what would the selling price be?

High CRI chips like the domestic fluorescence bulb
Price similar to ordinary light but not many manufacter produce em so modding is required
or just buy a D26 host and buy a Warm white tint dropin

We should have a section on this forum where someone enters up to 5 lights and puts it up to a poll where other members can vote. The winner is the one that the thread starter has to buy!

Geting into flashlights got me into many other things: headlamps, batteries, chargers, storage boxes, Bike mounts, leather work, backpacks, tackle boxes and now expensive tripods. How could I have known about all these accessories...

The TK70 is good at both rendering street lights and trespassers useless. They should have dropped the plunger look and went for the warhammer look instead.

You want your first lights to be the brightest thing ever, then after a while you want the dimmest possible. Then it's just mayhem and you want that one, that one, no wait! THAT one....

    GET OUT OF MY HEAD
I seem to have misplaced my occipital lobe, and as such cannot search for it. Do you see my dilemma?
