Was the purpose of the 10250 Li Ion just to make the light shorter ?

I didn't understand why the single 10440 AAA size was not sufficient .

Are you trying to set a record for being AAA diameter ... but shorter too ?

The concept of the adjustable tube is pretty neat ......
but I'd probably just always use the longer AAA tube .

Im still confirming a few things so I want to make sure its doable before posting it,
but I'll see what I can do

The main purpose of the shorter body is to provide the option to reduce the overall size of your keychain for people who want to carry it that way (to give you something else to play with), and for people with very short pockets

Am I remembering wrong or isn't total Lumens output reduced from the 500 mark by the use of AAA's?

Pretty sure you only get 500 lumens by using a lithium ion cell, while NiMH and alkalines will give you reduced output.

500 lumens will only be possible with High Discharge Li-ions.

Its really great there are some new makers/designers who are also flashlight addicts emerging on CPF again!!! The never ending onslaught from China is getting old and keeps putting CPF further and further from its roots.

Keep the tighten for off!!!! It just makes sense on an EDC. Cant wait for this light to be ready and maybe a AA platform in the future

just a thought.. why do you need 2 bodies since the adjustable body can function as both? wouldn't it be more cost efficient for you if u just make the adjustable body? i know most people here will just use 1 body and never use the other body. for myself, i will just use 10280 batt in the adjustable body and if i ever encountered a low batt situation w/o a spare 10280, i will just extend it into an AAA length and pop in a triple A batt.

    Hi JJ,

I do think its a little more of a split group than you mention (though I could be wrong).
There have been members who posted they actually prefer the bigger size.

For keyring, sure, the smaller sized, adjustable body is perfect.
    For others, gifts, wives, etc,
not having to deal with rechargeables, is a big plus as well, and the AAA form factor is perfect for slipping into handbags, suit pockets, and more.
In terms of cost, the additional body does add some cost but most of the other components that are going into this project outweigh that by a long mile.

I'm really glad you "get it" so perfectly though regarding the adjustable body, because what you described:
"i will just use 10280 batt in the adjustable body and if i ever encountered a low batt situation w/o a spare 10280, i will just extend it into an AAA length and pop in a triple A batt"
...is exactly what I had in mind when starting work on the Torpedo

p.s the 4500K XML's (LED CHIP ONLY) arrive tomorrow,
and we are about 1 week away from the working proto's!

Am I correct in thinking that there is still no pre-sale on this light? How many do you think you will be making?

what do you estimate the lumen output to be on energizer e2 lithium aaa? its all i use.

Coming late to the party, but I must say WOW!! This light is a dream coming true- an ultracompact light monster.
If it had a clickie and would start in turbo modue (#4), it would replace all my Surefires and Novatacs for defensive
use too!! But that would be a wet dream!! ;-)

    Thanks bltkmt,
I think thats a great question to ask at this time.

    re: pre-sale
    Yes, you are correct.

    re: How many
As many as it takes to satisfy the community

The first production run will probably 100~200
Then the second production will probably be 200~ (at the very most a few weeks after 1st run)

I'm really trying to avoid a pre-sale until the light is production ready as it just doesn't seem to have a good history on CPF.
I am taking this very seriously though and working diligently to be very professional regarding every aspect of the Torpedo, from concept through to delivery whilst aiming to maitaining a good level of transparency into everything as well.

Once the production version is verified and tested as being CPF worthy,
I will notify everyone on the subscription list and in this thread with as much advance notice as possible, and will have an order page ready when the time comes.

When I am 1000% certain on the exact timing, I will consider an advance order, but the earliest I would consider doing that is 2 weeks prior to shipping.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Hi shadeone,

Will need to test it in the proto when its ready but if the energizer's live up to their spec,
then I'm hoping to see them achieve 300lumens on high, 200 lumens should be no problem.

I will be posting lots of test results once the working proto's are in hand, and that day is near.

Hi Cato & welcome to the party

The real fun is just around the corner so you are just in time.
The torpedo is designed to handle wet, dry, hot, cold

there are many, very impressive lights in that small group you mentioned, so its very kind of you to consider the torpedo as a comparison.

    ....the clicky & high,
    anything is possible, but timing....
one sure step at a time though you may need to wait for the sidewinder
    to get that clicky/high combo

    tgwnn

p.s. sorry, no formal concept for the sidewinder yet, but its a cool name

    YAYYYYY! +1 for the sidewinder!!!

    (what are we cheering about?)

Seriously... you should have kept that name hidden until the project is in the works... I wouldn't want anyone to steal the idea from you.

    The clip.....

Ok, here goes, not quite final but here is an early proto.
this should give you the basic idea.

    There are some minor changes:
    1) mainly the clip starts at the lower end of the clip/ring and is not folded over from the top as in the above image.
    2) the length of the clip will be longer to provide more strength and better clipping
    3) the secondary clip (can you spot it?) is raised slightly at its base to reduce slipping and allow clipping onto a thicker surface.

Also, the clip can be locked on to the body (will post when that's finalized)

We are close to the final design but I'm waiting on some feedback from the R&D workshop
and will post them once confirmed.

Hope you like the basic concept

They forgot to add MBI to the name,
or maybe they were not sure what that meant?

p.s. now Im going to have to create a fake light called the banana,
a real high spec, just to see who copies it!

Maybe you could call that new light the "MBI Duplicate", then they can make a copy of that . . .

Are your lumen estimations conservative (OTF lumens) or are you telling us "LED lumens"?

May you tell us something more about a possible future clicky version of the Torpedo?

ps: I love the clip design and it's great that it's reversable

    About the clip, thanks
A future clicky, I can tell you in the future, nothing concrete right now (sorry).
Lumens, its a conservative emitter lumen measurement which will vary slightly depending on the XM-L bin choices,
and we may tweak the final output (increase it a little) if needed after testing in the proto.

What bins do you anticipate being available for the tints specified? A U2 5000k? Are there higher bins available than that now?

    Hi Sno4Life,

For now its looking like the following:
    T6 5000K, 6500K
    T5 4500K

For now, the U2's are still hard to find at a reasonable quantity/price,
though I will recheck all options on the bin availability before going into production,
    and let you know.

    Glad you like that
I figured it would come in handy to quickly clip it onto the brim of a hat as a quick head light,
and save you from needing to detach/reverse the clip to do so.
