Guys

I know that unofficially the Surefire LX2 can run on 8.4 volts (2 x li-ion batteries) ... I have this setup currently and it works perfectly.

But will the LX2 run on 9 volts (3 x cr123a primaries)? 9 volts is only a little more than the working 8.4 volts ... will it go :poof: ?

I've got a 3 x cr123a vital gear body, and it'd be cool to have an LX2 running on this for a longer runtime on high.

Thanks for any expert opinions ... or first hand experiences!

I'm surprised you're getting away with the 8.4V. Just keep in mind that 3 x cr123a will be 9.6V initially.

No direct experience but I don't recommend it. The LX2 runs fine on 2 CR123's, no need to run 3 CR123's and run the danger of buring the led, which is probably what will happen.

Thanks for the comments guys.

As per a few other threads, the LX2 has been tested to be able to run on 2 x Li-Ions ... this is not supported by Surefire, but does work. My LX2 is my EDC, running on 2 x 16340 AWs, and has been run on high for at least 15 mins constantly on a couple of occasions without any issues.

Yeah I'm not game to try 3 x cr123a primaries, but have been intrigued about whether the driver will support it, especially since 9 volts (3 x primaries) is only a bit more than 8.4 volts (2 x li-ions).

Voider, it's interesting that you mentioned 3 x primaries are 9.6 volts initially ... I have a batch of Surefires and they all measure 3 volts each giving a total of 9 volts exactly. Must be different batches or brands I think.

Anyone else with knowledge or experience on this topic?

Cheers

All my Surefire batteries start at 3.2 volts. Not sure why you are getting only 3 volts. In fact all my other brands ranges from 3.15 to 3.25 volts when new.
