I got my brand new Eagletac in the mail yesterday and I was so excited! When I bought my Defender a year or so ago, I wanted another one, but they went from $120 to $189 for the same light, so I've spent the last month or so lurking these forums and watching goinggear's flashlight reviews like they were porn in order to find a cheaper, yet viable alternative.

Finally decided on the XM-L Eagletac P20C2 because it's beam profile looks completely opposite of my Surefire, but at the same time it's more than double lumens allow it to push out to about the same distance in effectiveness (I'd say 150 yards max).

I was kind of surprised that the beam color of my new Eagletac is purple! All of the photos I've seen of the XM-L show it as green, so I took it upon myself to correct all you poor photographers who don't know what you're doing and show the purple off. This exercise has taught me a few lessons... Camera's don't see color the way we do at ALL and most of you photographers are in fact really good. :)

Surefire E2DL on the left, TLR-1 in the middle, and P20C2 on the right...

In reality the E2DL has a mild green tint, the TLR-1 has a nice, warm, yellowish tint, and the P20C2 has slight green in the center but radiates a light purple to the eye as you go out from there. In fact, past 1 foot from the white wall, the green center kind of fades and gives way to the more dominate purple.

Later tonight I might take some more pictures of them lighting up my yard. I must admit, it's hard to "choose" if I had to give up either the EagleTac or the Surefire... there is something really nice in the Surefire's interface simplicity (Turns on in high, click again quickly for low) Also, when "tree surfing" at night with it, I can hit the trees above houses and point to objects with it easily. With the EagleTac, I hit the trees, light up their entire house and the grass below. Feels less "stealthy" that way.

On the other hand, the XM-L emitter has a really "nice" light... if you light it up on turbo in the house, even though it's "too bright" for some reason it doesn't hurt your eyes the way the concentrated spot of the E2DL on the wall does. Having S.O.S. and strobe is kind of cool too, though since they have removed the option to double click to get strobe in the interface there is no real world way it would ever be usuable before the bad guy got to you and had his hands around your neck.

Those are my thoughts for the day.
Peace,

Beam shots were taken with the shutter open for 1.3 seconds, 400ISO, 5.6 aperature, optimized to try and mimic what I saw with my eyes.

First beam shot is old faithful, Surefire E2DL:

Next up is the Streamlight TLR-1 Weapons mounted light (non strobe version)

And last but certainly not least, the EagleTac P20C2:

Nice job Dreamaster. Comparisons are always fun to do. I like the decision to go with the P20C2. For about $80 those Eagletac's are just right. I really like mine. Also the choice you made allows you enough left over to get another E2DL on the CPF Market Place. :welcome:
