copy from Leatherman's facebook:

Congrats to our friends at LED Lenser in Germany!!! We've won the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest flashlight ever!!! This weekend at the Festival of Lights in Solingen, Germany LED Lenser unveiled the world's largest flashlight – and it was CONFIRMED!...By the Guinness Book of World's Records.

Here are the "Fast Facts":
• Material Weight: 287 lb / 130 kg of aluminum
• Batteries Weight: 176 lb / 80 kg
• Length: 13 feet / 400 cm
• Number of LED Lamps: 19
• Output on Batteries: 30,000 lumens on battery
• Output Hard-wired: 100,000 lumens!! with 230 volts of power
• Design: Based on the X21
• Design and manufacturing time: 230 hours

The old record was held by Moonlight Trading LLC from the
United Arabian Emirates (UAE). Their flashlight size was 227 cm. Ours is 400 cm !!!

The basic restrictions for the size record from Guiness were:
1. It must be the at least 10xbigger version of an originally existing consumer product (X21)
2. It has to be made from the same material like the consumer product
3. It has to provide the same basic function (give light)
4. It has to run battery driven similar to a real flashlight.

The perfect EDC flashlight?

EDIT: See post #19 for a picture! :)

287 lbs??? 176 lbs worth of batteries? Can you really classify that as a flashlight? Who on earth could lug that thing around?

I think as long as you have a pocket clip you're good. :)

Also I'm going to take a wild guess and say this flashlight uses lead-acid batts.

Are they any pics of this monster available? I'd imagine you'd have to roll it around on a cart for it to be "portable."

Hehe... I can't believe it has to weigh so much to produce 100,000 lumens... It seems like that could be done at around 50-60 lbs easily with LEDs... I guess they were going for size more than output... I wonder what the run time is like...

They did use LEDs. 19 of them, as stated.

I wonder what emitter they used for it. Overdriven CBM-360 planted over >130kg of aluminum heatsinking?

Unless the low is less than 2 lumens I'm not interested.

They should make it 1000x bigger, 1000x as powerful, and put it in orbit aimed at Earth as a miniature second sun.

Led Lenser needs to get their "regular lights" in order so they have something TO OFFER which I would consider buying before pulling this marketing stunt...

Hey -- wait just a minute . . . .

It only hits 100,000 Lumens if it's connected to 230 volt Mains Power ! ! !

That certainly doesn't qualify as a Flashlight !
