I just got in my 1st higher end LED light about 2 hours ago.... Its the Jetbeam BC-10, and so far I like it.... But I'm still looking for mid sized lights, and I've seen quite a few out there. Now I stumbled across the Fenix TK-45, with it's 3 R5 LED's, and it has good features, etc. But what is the advantage to using 3 R5's LED's instead of just 1 XM-L? Do the different LED's come on separately depending upon power setting, or do they all run all the time?

TK45 uses three XP-G emitters in separate housings with small reflectors. It is known for it's floody type beam. The TK41, which is a similar light only using one XM-L emitter and a large, single reflector has a lot more throw.

I don't think there is any advantage of three LEDs other than getting more output than a single XP-G would give. Sure Fenix could use a single XM-L and a shallow, textured reflector such as used in the TK40, but for some reason Fenix seem allergic to textured reflectors and use them sparingly.
