After two weeks of using the new fenix pd32, these are my thoughts and impressions.

First, the factory specs:

6 modes -
  • Turbo - 315 Lumens - 2hours
  • High - 130 Lumens - 8hours
  • Mid - 70 Lumens - 16hours
  • Low - 3 Lumens - 200hours
  • Strobe - 315 Lumens
  • SOS - 130 Lumens
• Cree XP-G (R5) LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours
• Uses two 3V CR123A batteries (Lithium) or one 18650 rechargeable battery (Li-ion)
• 127mm (Length) x 24mm (Diameter)
• 65-gram weight (excluding batteries)
• Digitally regulated output - maintains constant brightness
• Reverse polarity protection, to protect from improper battery installation
• Over heat protection to avoid high-temperature of the surface
• Anti-roll, slip-resistant body design
• Tactical tail switch with momentary-on function
• Side switch in the head
• Made of durable aircraft-grade aluminum
• Premium Type III hard-anodized anti-abrasive finish
• Toughened ultra-clear glass lens with anti-reflective coating

Generally, I carry my Fenix pd31, Surefire e2dl or e1b around the house or while walking the dog at night. My review of the pd32 is in comparison to these lights.

When compared to the Surefire E Series models, the obvious difference is the diameter of the pd32 is larger to accommodate both cr123s and 18650 batteries.

I've carried the pd32 every night for 2 weeks around the house and while walking the dog. It performed outstandingly. The new side mode switch in the bezel is significantly easier to use than the twist bezel UI of the pd31; a pragmatic upgrade. The pd32 is just slightly longer than the pd31. While the pd31 has a flat, thin boot switch that allows it to tail-stand, the boot switch of the pd32 extends beyond its tail's rim. This makes the pd32's boot switch easier to engage and allows for momentary-on capability, but makes tail-standing impossible.

The brightness levels are comparable - 304 from the pd31 and 315 on the pd32 with excellent throw balance with a relatively wide spread.

While subtle, the upgrades on the pd32 from the previous pd models change its functionality considerably, and for the better. The fit and finish are high quality, what you would expect from Fenix. It is comfortable in the hand and the pocket, easy to use, and performs like a champ.
