I have several cheapo flood to throws and I really like em. Mostly because as worklights they give you light but without a harsh hotspot. The nice even light is easier on your eyes for sure.
And the versatility is nice too.
BUT... they aren't as efficient as regular reflector lights since some of their light in throw mode gets sucked to the sides where it is lost. Worse of all, there are a bunch of patents, such that you can't ever find GOOD larger versions of the light.
I love my light but its only 150ish lumens at best. Its an fleabay cheapo. In theory I could get a bigger one right? WROOONG! The more recent emitters are so fat that they don't work nearly as well in aspherics. So the XR-E is still the best emitter for F2T.
In theory, you could get a multi-barrel/emitter light right? WROOOOONG! Unless you wanna pay led lensor 300 bucks(!!) for their 2 year old X21. Fine light Im sure, but 300 bucks?!?
They are cheap to try out though. I'd recommend the 3xAAA variants because they have more voltage than a 1xAA, and thus can be driven harder.
Your best bet is probably this one:

Uses an XR-E, with R2 bin. Using a CR123 it has enough voltage to drive it properly. With a RCR123 you can even overdrive it.
This is a good option too.
