Hello all.
The Fenix pd31 can run on 2xcr123 or 1x18650. Is there a benefit of one over the other? Would love to hear the pros and cons, if any. Thanks.
18650 is rechargeable and has the longest runtime, if you plan on using the light this is the best battery.
But if you want to storing the light for emergency use only, CR123 has a very long storage time and is the battery to use.
Thanks for the info. Will either configuration make the light brighter, or is runtime the only thing effected? Also, I tried 2xrcr123 and it works but nowhere do I see anyone mentioning if you can use them or not in this light. Any idea?

The CR123/RCR123 might make the light slightly brighter on the last part of the runtime, but I have not checked it.
2xrcr123/2x16340 can be used in many 2xCR123, but sometimes it will blow the driver. If you want to be safe, only use RCR123 when the manufacturer recommend it.
I have lights that ll run on both. I use the CR123's when there is a danger of the light freezing, the 18650's when there isn't. Haven't tried any testing to see which runs longer, haven't noticed any difference in brightness
Thanks for the info. I don't know, I am very happy with the pd31. Throws like a monster. If you know of another light this size or smaller that can out throw it, let me know and ill buy it. It out throws my jetbeam bc10 even with rcr's producing over 400lm. It out throws my incendio v3, surefire e1 backup. Ill buy any light this small that throws better!
