2 Nihm AA batteries in a first generation ARC-LS? I have seen a number of places where some lights get the magic smoke let out of them by rechargable batteries due to the lower resistance. Is this a problem with any generation of ARC 123 powered light. I know I didn't get it right in the subject line.

Let's see, first gen Arc LS's are voltage regulated. MM sandwiches in Mini-Mags are voltage regulated. No problem with MM's using AA NiMH's in my lights, and I think that I tried them out in my LS1, though I prefer alkalines for higher initial voltage.

dat2zip has graphs comparing the performance of his original MadMax module in various batteries. Initial brightness is the same between alkaline and NiMH. The modules just run longer and more stably on NiMH. dat2zip's MadMax+ drives the emitter at about 700 mA. That's a lot more power than the original MadMax, or the LS1 (I believe). I haven't heard any reports of magic smoke from the MadMax+. You should be fine using NiMH in the LS1.
