My first DIY flashlight

Had some spare time and materials so I decided to make one. It's a XM-L led based torch running of an 18650 with a lFlex using a micro mom switch and Ledil LXP-RS lens so it could also be used as a bike light.

The LED: XM-L T6 1C

Nice job toaster79.:) I do think you need some better batteries though. Especially at that current.:sssh:

Believe it or not, but those cells actually spit out 3.5A current when fresh off the charger. Will have to test them to see for how long they keep up at that current an what's the runtime on full.

Is this a single cell light. Appears that it is but wasn't sure.

If that current is from one battery then all i can say is wow! Maybe you got some good ones there. These batteries seem to have very good capacity with less than a 1 amp discharge. But when you discharge at higher current rates they seem to loose capacity very fast depending on the current draw. They have a high internal resistance. Old4570 done some test here read down the thread. There has also been other test done on this battery that had similar results.

Now I not trying to knock your batteries. Just trying to inform you. I'am still amazed at your results.:thumbsup:

Yes, it's a single cell setup. I've red that thread and I know more or less everything about those cheap DX/KD LiIons. I've bought 10 pcs of those Ultrafires and 5 of them do cope with 3.5A the other five give between 2.9-3.2A current when fresh off the charger. They do loose capacity very quickly at high currents but at low current discharge they seem to have around 2500mAh capacity. I also have some 2400mAh Trustfires which are protected, but they won't give out more than 2.5A current. Don't know wether this is due to protection circuit or high internal resistance. Next build will be probbably based around 25500 or 32650 cell, and 40mm reflector.

I have several of the black and red flame trustfires. I like the trustfires pretty well. I have had some 2 years and seem to be doing fine. What i noticed from them though was that in single cell lights that when measured at the tail gave less current than Good panasonics. And i do like them fat 32650's for mag builds.:)
