I've got a kid I'm sending down range in a couple of months. He lost the Surfire Kroma I gave him last Christmas, so he needs a new light. I can't swing the $400 for a new Kroma (I got the one for a ripping deal), so I need some input. He wants a light that is at least no bigger, preferrably smaller, than the Kroma, straight body, clicky tailcap(he wasn't overly fond of the Kroma's twisty), low red (or possibly other tactical color) and bright as possible white output, with a pocket clip. I'd like to keep the price below $150, and actually available before Christmas.

hehe , there are many flashlight brand you can choose , such as fenix , sunwayman and TEI, the cost is lower than surefire and the function is good also . hope you can find the better one !!!:)

I'd get him a separate small light with red output http://www.batteryjunction.com/phimi.html

And a second mid sized light: Surefire G2X. (no pocket clip though)

It might be wise to remember that (AFAIK) he does get discounts on Surefire since he is in the Army.

Otherwise this should be a great multi purpose light: Sunwayman V20C: http://www.batteryjunction.com/sunwayman-v20c.html This is very bright, but can also give very low light output if that is wanted.

A M20C would also probably be a good choice: http://www.batteryjunction.com/sunwayman-m20c-warmwhite.html

I would just use a good small or mid size Surefire with a removeable red filter. Maybe a C2/M2 with cheap LED drop-in picked up from Lighthound...
