I wondered the same thing. Find this post. Can someone else confirm that? Thanks

The i2, like it's predecessor, is a twisty style EDC/key chain style light, incorporating 3 basic modes for general use, and breaks down into 2 parts. The i2 is powered by either a standard AA alkaline or rechargeable Ni-mh (or Ni-cd for those that still use them), and does not support lithium ion rechargeable batteries. HTH
i guess he's just going by the specs sheet
Have you tried yours I2 or just found that info out there?yeah it seems to work well with 14500, the modes don't get jacked up sky high like on other lights
L and M seems to be about the same when using 14500. but H gets a nice boost
i suppose it would be safe as long as we use HIGH sparingly? what do you think?

Well...to say that implies that you know more about the driver circuit than the manufacturer. Those who made it do not claim it to be supported and that could be for any number of reasons all of which could merely be to avoid a lawsuit by an unwitting customer. I would stick with the specs unless or until I knew the driver wouldn't do something dramatic with a Li-Ion.
