X1 or Arc AAA for my wife\'s keychain??

I know the Arc has received numerous accolades. Is the X1 even out yet? How do they compare, as I'm getting one or the other for my wife's birthday.

Thanks for any replies.

well, does she like small things on her keychain or larger things on her keychain.

I have not been happy with Inova products. I'd go with the Arc AAA, the best friggin' keychain light out there.

Prices are similar, Arc has lots of spill, X1 has concentrated beam. Arc is twist-on, Inova has an on/off tail cap switch. For occasional use, either would suffice. Arc is a proven unit, Inova hasn't been released yet.

From what I've heard the X1 is huge compared to the ARC-AAA.

Arc AAA,
I don't have one as my Micro does the job for me...anyway, the Arc AAA would be better in that it is much, much, much smaller compared to the X1. The X1 will use an AA battery and the tailswitch and optics make it much longer and larger in diamter.
If you want to get her a single 5mm LED that uses an AA battery, the Arc AA seems to be the one. Heck, buy both the AA and AAA and see which one she likes.

compared to the aaa, the x1 is gigantic.
heck, compared to the arc aa the x1 is large.

i think the x1 would be much to large for most peoples keychains...

The answer, as usual, is to get both. Just don't put them both on the keychain at once. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would say Arc AAA for the key chain if she doesn't mind the size. Personally I don't like a AAA of my keys (all 3 or 4 of them) and have a photon microlight II instead, but only because I like the shape and size.

I've carried an Infinity on my keychain, and find that that's my peronal limit sizewise for a keychain. Even then, it was a bit of a stretch. I find the Arc AA to be perfectly comfortable. That difference in size really matters.

I think you'd really be stretching it to give an X-1 as a keychain gift. It's quite a bit longer. Plus, I'm 6', 225 lbs. so I think a woman would find it to feel even larger.

I just got my ARC AAA, but it won't replace my Photon II on my keychain. The Photon is still alot smaller and lighter.

dare I suggest NEITHER?

Try instead an Inova Microlight with translucent body -

Small light and unobstrusive - easy squeeze for a quick shot of light with continuous ON switch, and about as bright as the highly regarded benchmark ArcAAA.

I personally prefer the solid black body because of less distracting light spillage -
BUT just about everyone else seems to be really impressed with the translucent body.

Re: X1 or Arc AAA for my wife\'s keychain??

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't realize the X1 was that much larger than the Arc. I'll probably stick with the Arc, as I don't feel the Inova microlight, with it's plastic body, would hold up as long on a keychain. I could be wrong??

Thanks again for helping me decide.

This might be some indication -
I have an old Photon I yellow on my keyring - carried from the day I received it - I was waiting for it to wear out to replace it with the Photon 2 I bought when the 2's came out - so that's probably at least 6-7 years? The Photon I yellow is still there.

However why don't you simply do a "test"?

Show the wife an Inova Microlight translucent body, an ArcAAA and a Sonic -
then let HER choose.....

I don't think anyone who's replied (no insult intended)....
even remotely resembles your wife /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Inova is easier to change the batteries and slightly more water resistant. Also, the LED is fairly well protected from impacts in the Inova. It's completely exposed in the Photon II.
