It is a ship's searchlight made of nickle plated brass. I was wondering if this could be modded as a light for the backporch. You never know when you want to be able to see whats in the backyard or on all that farmland that your backyard touchs.

Looks like an old Perko Search light? Don't let Charlie see this! Good thing he is in Vegas right now! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just thought it might have the potential for a bright mod.

The only mod I can think of is my initials engraved on the back. lol. What voltage is that beast?I would think you could use a converter to power it from 110 ac

designer can make a fortune. call Home Depot and Lowe's.
Look at it. Scroll back up the page to the photos and look at it. In backyards all across America: "Light that up, Earl. How do those trees look? What's that look like lit up?"
if you saw one at Lowe's or Home Depot or Wal-Mart, on display next to the barbeque grills and turkey friers, you would buy it.
3 functions: on - regular, on - high, and off.
an essential issue is "where is connection to power" .
feature:
Needs to attach to poles and exterior walls with an easy power source connection.

If you make a fortune, good for you. Hope you have the forsight to thank me now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thats an insanely cool searchlight! Its probably 12 or 24 v since it is a ship searchight? Check out the bulb format- get a nasty bulb for it - I assume that fat cable is + only - should take a motherload of current - mount it on your car!

(p.s. If you don't want it, I know a certain boat that would look just spiffy with that lamp!)

Well, heatsinking shouldn't be a huge issue if you did go with a 5w... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

5Watt LED. Hmmmm, as bright as they are, I think this would be a little under lumen'd with a 5 watt.

JonSidneyB, that was my point... HID would rock but like AilSnail said, it wouldn't be instant-on.

Maybe if you hope to use it as a tactical light of some sort... Could it be mounted underneath an M-16? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
