I am new to this forum and building my own lights. So i need your help.

I am a scuba diver and have a case that is made to house a 10 watt hid head and ballast along with a nimh battery. I currently only have the housing and the switch for the light. I would like to switch to an LED based light. I would like to put 3 XM-L LEDs in it but i am not sure what kind of driver i will need and what would be a good battery option to pair them up with.

So my questions would be:
Is it even worth swithing to led or should i stick with the 10w HID?
Would you recommend any other LEDs?
How do i drive the 3 xml LEDs?
Also what kind of a battery would you recommend? I am on a budget and would need to get at least 2 hours out of the light?

I am sure i will have more questions but for now let me know what you think.

firstly, welcome to cpf!

there is a dedicated dive light section on this forum, im sure a mod will move this thread if asked nicely.

if done right a tripple xml setup should be an improvement over a 10W hid, however some more details of your current light are required.

for starters, what make and model hid is it? also what are the specs of the battery?

there have been quite a few threads on hid upgrades to led in the last year have a good read through the dive light sub-forum for lots of info.
