I'm watching a programme on the scourge of rats and I'm wandering why instead of trying to poison them we don't lace a ready food supply with a rat version of the pill. My other thought was irradiating them causing sterility by say making a sort of tube that could be placed on a rat route. This would flash a small powerful x-ray on the rat as it travellled through. These methods may only be partially effective and no doubt rats are so resilient they'd become immune to sterilisation through irradiation. What else could be effective?
