Hi,

I have a 6 or so year old LED Lenser 7854 Micro Tactical Plus that is a bit tired after all this time.

I finally got it open today (vice and vice grips!) and now I am looking at changing the LED. How do I identify the LED used? And how do I choose a good replacement?

Thanks!

OK, shall get a pic.

I am good enough at soldering for this. There is only a positive wire soldered onto the LED, the negative has a long leg held to the body with a screw.

If it's a hexagonal yellow phosphor or a tall- dome LED on black plastic, it's probably an SSC (most likely). If it's a yellow rectangle slightly off center, it's Luxeon. If it's on a green chip it's probably a cree xp-e, or with a metal ring under the dome, cree xr-e.

Your description of how it is built reminds me of.my old LEDLenser with the annoying build. The housing rear was electrically isolated from the front! Anyway, that had an ssc (p4?) In it, installed similarly to how you describe.
