Open the Fenix TK15 head - difficult?

Yep, it was difficult, and unexpectedly the body came apart in three parts...

The tube came loose with just strap wrenches.
But the hard part was separating the head/reflector from button/driver section.
There's just no way to get a grip on the smooth slanting surface with straps.
I finally had to put channel locks straight on the metal & let it bite in hard.
And before all that, weaken the thread locker with strategical heating with a small gas torch.

So now all I need is the new led to arrive.

Thx for the info and pics. I have tk12 r5, and i could end up disassembling the head sometime. Now i know where to separate the head. From the look of the head, it is the same with tk12. I mean where the reflector holder part + the driver holder part of the head can be separated.

Wow that looks harder to get apart than my Fenix LD20. I modded two of my LD20 with neutral XPG-R5s and the tint is better. Also modded my PD31 with the same LED, tint is better still when being driven at higher amperage compared to the LD20s (more white than yellow, but less cool white than the stock LED).

OK, it's done!
Installed a XP-G R4 neutral white. Spec says 3900-4250 Kelvin.

The tone is maybe a bit on the warm side compared to my other neutrals.
Distinctly warmer than my neutral LD25, but of course some variance is to be expected.
I think this is a BIG step up from the original emitter, especially at the low power modes.
No more ghoulish color.

Some images:

The pcb seems to be made of copper, is attached with some soft type of glue & comes off easily.
Comparison of the leds, reassembled light showing with scars from opening.

Before / after comparison of tone with some other fenix lights for reference.
All multimode lights on high, turbo mode not used.
Camera set to daylight white balance.

The two E20 are also modded & the warm white E20 is just too warm
outdoors & my eyes won't adapt to it everything looks brownish.
