Interesting site, thanks Hank. Makes you think. Here we are with more lights than we'll ever need, just playing.

I'm interested in low cost, sustainable high cri led lighting for the world (or something better than leds when it comes along).

Deforestation perpetuates poverty, flooding, topsoil loss, desertification.
Efficient wood burning allows people to burn less wood, grow trees and improve their condition.

Isn't it interesting that all we have to do is just eat less meat and we would do more for the environment than any of these carbon saving technologies. Everyone is so focused on carbon emissions from cars and industry that they forget that the biggest threat to our climate comes from the meat industry.

yes, that is interesting indeed.

I'm looking forward to CPF Green functioning properly, as it should be a good venue for us to talk about efficient tech and social progress.
There have been some good discussions down in the CPF Underground Cellar as well.

Funny thing is, all these issues won't be an issue in approximately 11 months!

One good argument for folks like us talking about and building better lights -- establishing prior art in public discussions.
The really good ideas that do get shared can't then be locked up by patents.

The world needs these lights, and needs better and better tech continuing cheap and available.

It is hard to imagine what the world will be like without light. There is no doubt that the light change our life completely. We can do more and need do more to protect the source we have such as lights.

That would be the Mayan doomsday scenario:sick2:.

Big deal, it's just the end of the Mayan long count calendar. Our calendar ends every year after December, but it's not the end of the world. I don't put too much stock in doomsday sayers. The world should have ended 242 times already according to their prophecies and predictions.

We have cut our meat consumption way way down and get most of our protein from beans which is a better source IMO anyway. Bring on the veggies!!!

Keith

That's great. I hardly eat any meat myself, aside from fish and the occasional slice of pepperoni pizza. I'm not sure all beans contain a complete protein, though. For vegetarians it's important to get proteins from a wide array of foods to get all the essential amino acids. Egg whites and whey are great sources for complete proteins. You can read about complete proteins here. Whoa, this thread has gotten way off topic *waits for overzealous mod to close thread* :tsk:

OK, I need to get my head around that one... I like the thought very much.

The thread is actually ON topic, it's just that the real topic is resource scarcity.

I already share my best 3/4 baked ideas online in discussions, if it can be shown how shared ideas in an open forum are protected from patenting, or setting the stage for a GNU style licencing, then a lot more people may be inspired to share their arts.

That depends if they've calculated the dates right my friend. The thing is they've predicted every full moon, every eclipse, all the major comet fly bys, even the position
of the Earth in the Milky Way.The point being they're not wrong very often if not at all.

And the Mayans had extensive systems of roads but not a single WHEEL in the whole kingdom , had heaps of gold but none of it used as currency! My point is they are very short sighted in many places, maybe they predicted wrong or incompletely?
