my mouse keeps freezing and stops the computer aswell including windows media playback.
mentioned to a mate at work and he said he has a similar problem

so I tried a search and came up with a few supposed solutionsbut they didn't work

I am capable of following walk thru tutorials but thats about as good as it gets for me on this thing

so anyone have the magic solution

is this common at the moment

my computer is fairly new and updated

running a 6 core processor

mozilla and firefox
got spyware and avg and other stuff also

I did the troubleshoot thing and it said working ok

somewhere it said something about flow overload or something like that???

anyhow any help would be great and maybe also help others

I had a computer freezing problem when I built the one I am using. It would freeze for up to 15 seconds at a time and after days of trying to figure it out I traced it down to a bad SATA cable on a dvd burner. It seems windows at times will check drives and when they are not working properly it causes your computer to freeze till it times out.

+1 on the sata cable.

I've also had the same symptoms from a heavily fragmented HDD, or a handful of bad sectors affecting system files.

Get Auslogics Disk Defrag and Crystal DiskInfo to check for either of those.

This is one of those "could be a lot of things" issues that you'll need a geek to sit down for an hour and figure out what it isn't by process of elimination.

6 core system... Sounds like there may be an AMD driver causing bedlam in the graphics department. Try updating the drivers (I have a distinct memory of some AMD drivers being so horrid that my monitor couldn't even stay synced with the graphics card for more then a second)

The first thing you should try is determine if the problem is caused by the OS or not. Boot it with a live CD and see if it hangs.

check for error messages in windows event viewer

and as posted above, if you have a bootable cd or flash, boot that, load a mouse driver, play around try to recreate the problem

ok first ...
thanks to everyone who is trying to help out here I appreciate it guys

Moddoo.. I am running windows xp (is that what you meant, sorry I don't know more)

H-man, thanks I will try to find something in the tutorials

Too many gizmos ... I did that, went thru the troubleshoot proceedure ,still happening.

vali and 127... I will try to do these things also

I suppose it just takes time as I am a bit lost when it comes to tech stuff,
I'll use google search + tutorials and see what happens
I can always do a system restore

I was hoping a magic tweak could fix it but at least I can try a few things

Thanks guys
I will let you know if I fix it

if you are running Windows XP 64 bit, Flash player is not supporting that OS anymore.

it's giving me trouble on one of my machines too.
Only while streaming video. Youtube use is when most of the freezes happen.

Barring a hardware problem, in my experience these are driver issues. When was your last mouse driver update? Same for video, security...
Zone Alarm (free) and Nvidia drivers bring me the most problems.
