I've been struggling to get a brighter torch than my 5 Cree R2 mag mod, mainly because of the lack of decent host with a good battery selection. Then I had an idea, the eBay HIDs have a 6 x 18650 battery pack and enough room in the head for a decent driver.
I've got the torch now (although there is a battery/charger problem, which is getting sorted), so thoughts now turn to a driver and battery mod. I've already decided on multiple XM-L T6 (or possibly U2). The battery pack will need modding as it has two modes and two outputs (12v and 7+12v). Today I spotted some new drivers on KD for 5, 7 and 9 series LED at 3A, input 6-12v. Now I would assume that 9 leds at 3A (~8190lm) will take about 9A from a 12v battery pack, which is probably asking to much from a cheap 6600mAh battery pack, so should I stick with 7 leds (~6370lm, ~7A@12v)?
