Wow, those pendulums were cool. It would be interesting to paint those with a more reflective paint, then bounce laser beams off of each one and the the output of the corresponding photocells to a bank of voltage controlled oscillators and see what kind of music it makes.

That's a really cool idea, PhotonWrangler! Maybe someone will see this thread and be inspired to do it. In the meantime, here's a guy who used the same pendulum demonstration using light (UV?) and music. At the end he shows an interesting experiment with shadows.

adjust the parameters, and this can give a close approximation to understand which harmonics might be achieved
