Hey all! I was looking into purchasing a new flashlight. A Maglite XL series to be exact. I am waiting on a Maglite XL200 to be delivered to replace my EDC Mini-Mag with a Teralux led upgrade that was lost. I am also thinking of getting an ML series to possibly replace my 2D cell Maglite (which also has the Teralux upgrade) which stays on my toolbag. I do HVAC work and we have several customers that prohibit carrying a firearm on their property, which sometimes leaves me in questionable alleys and stuck with my 9MM tucked away in my van and nowhere near me. In these cases the Magclub gives me a sense of security as a last ditch self defense tool. Maybe a false sense of security, but a sense of security non the less.
I recently purchased a Nebo redline that stays on the night stand I am fairly happy with this light for what its purpose is. Buying this light did teach me a couple of things about buying lights though. one is the controls are a bit clunky for what I use this light for as in having to cycle through all five modes to reach the strobe. And that lumen count isnt the end all be all of flashlight purchase. My buddy's Streamlight Stinger rated at 180 lumens is noticably brighter than my Nebo rated at 220 lumens. I didnt really expect a $25 light to outdo his $100 light, and I'm happy with the Nebo's brightness for it's intended purpose but it did teach me that Lumen count isn't a reliable unit to measure a light on.
Well I guess I have beat this bush to death and should get to the point. Looking at the specs on the ML100 and the ML125 on Maglites website the ML100 (3C) has a throw of 306 meters 137 lumens and 23393 cd. The ML125 has a throw of 258 meters 186 lumens and 16725 cd. Me being a complete flashlight newbie, does this info tell me anything about the actual performance of these lights? The versatility of the ML125 using the rechargable pack or 3C alkalines looks attractive. Whatever light I buy will (hopefully) end up replacing my toolbag light or becoming the main household flashlight. I would however like to make an informed decision. Can I tell from these number if these lights are any good? Or how they compare to each other? Do any of you have good or bad experience with these lights? If they are just bad lights could you recommend a good heavy duty led light with strobe and decent throw in this price range ($100 and below)? Would really like to stay with a light that can be used like a club too lol.
Wow that went longer than I planned. Thanks in advance for any info, be easy on me I am already a gun/ammo junkie and to become a flashlight junkie I would have to get a second job to support the habit (as much as its calling my name) lol.
