Thread: The Official Malkoff Junkie thread - Part 2

    Hello all!
    Newbie here.
I'm waiting for my Malkoff parts in the mail.
Is this the correct order when assembling a Malkoff head: gasket --lens--LED drop-in-- ring?
    Thank you.

Looking at the numbers on Malkoff site the E2 Super Throw/Scout head kicks the crap out of the M61T in both output and throw. Anyone got both and would you agree to this in real world use.

As told to me by Todd at Malkoff.

    Malkoff VME Head/drop-in Install

    Mxx bulb up
round small gadget on bulb assembly
then clear lens (peel off protective backing)
    then flat gadget
tip-up bulb assembly into VME head
    screw in VME head.
    done

I had the impression that Clowkoy was asking about an MDX head.

    Yes, that's correct.
The picture at Malkoff's website has 2 gaskets (MDX-16.5), a large and small.
My guess is large gasket--lens--small gasket-LED drop in---ring.
    Sorry for the confusion.

Ok got my M61T in and Iím out comparing it to my M61. Both loaded with a fresh 18650.if I squinted real hard and really consentrated I could just see a slight difference. I wasnít expecting a huge difference but figured there would be more then what I was seeing.now this was with my M61T in a 16.5 head because I assumed that the bigger opening in the head that came with it was just to get more spill.WRONG. I switched back to the larger opening and now there is a very big difference. It easily out throws the M61. Live and learn I guess

^^That is very interesting. Now that you've got the M61T in the 22.3, you're getting all of the throw. But do you mean that the spill of the M61T in the 16.5 head was about the same as the spill from the standard M61?

No the spill of the M61t in the 16.5 head was much smaller then Iím getting now in the22.3. The throw is much better in the 22.3 head. I did not realize that the throw would be decreased in the smaller head. I just figured that it would have less spill.guess gene knows what he is doing 😃 no matter what head I put the M61t in the spill was always less then the standard M61t.

And running the M61t on 3 primaries or 2X18500 makes the M61t look very dim. Really liking this Dropin

For those in the know, with the MDC LMH rechargeable head which would give me better run time 2XAA, or 1Xcr123?

The minimum input voltage for the MDC LMH head is 3.4v, so I'd say neither. This module really does want to run @4+ volts on a single lithium ion cell.

And with the primary batteries the low is actually very good and very usable. I'm going to have to get some 18500 so I can run it at full power for 2hours and not cost me an arm and a leg. It really is a great setup.

that's how I run it. The low mode is helpful.

Was Malkoff working on a new body for There Drop inís? I seem to remember something about a 26650. Or was this just a rumor.

Yes and a 21700 host has been discussed as well. I'd snap up a MD2 HOT with a 21700 body in a hot second.

Ok, thanks! I totally forgot that thread. It's interesting that 425lm M61 actually is brighter than 325lm until ~200min!
And according to the graph it seems to be more lumen-hours! I guess Gene has started to use a more efficient driver, or?

Yes itís brighter. And thatís good but with a single 18650 itís only 45-50 lumens more. Which is great but honestly if he hadnít advertised that it got and upgrade I donít think we would of noticed you really need more then that to see a difference.

So a 21700 is up to what 5100 mah? Ya that would definitely boost runtime way up I would think.

Also, that extra length would make it the perfect handheld size. For me, an MD2 is not pocketable so it might as well be just a tad longer so my hand fits.
