Is there a simple mod to crank up the light on My Star 2007 LED railroad lantern

I have several of these from work. http://www.star1889.com/pdf/product-flyers/railroad/2007-flyer.asp. I would like to turn one into a super thrower. It uses a big standard 6 volt spring batt. Surely I can turn this thing into an asskicker.

Looking at the light, it appears to use a Luxeon LED. Swapping the Luxeon LED for a top binned CREE XP-G, or XM-L LED would more than double your output. Being mostly plastic, the light doesn't appear to have much heatsinking ability to the outside. Heat is your enemy for any LED mod, especially when boosting the current to the LED. Keep this in mind when you tackle the mod.
